Mesenteric and Porto-Hepatic Duplex Sonography presentation’s focus is on the duplex ultrasound evaluation of the principle mesenteric vessels. One focus is on the associated symptom complex and the role of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries in chronic mesenteric ischemia. A second focus is on porto-hepatic venous system and the hemodynamic responses to portal hypertension.

  • Portal Venous Anatomy and Normal Flow Velocity/Waveform Characteristics
  • Evaluation of Portal Hypertension; Portal Vein Thrombosis
  • TIPS Procedure


  • Evaluate the mesenteric arterial circulation for clinically significant chronic ischemia.
  • Perform a standard protocol to document hemodynamic changes associated with portal hypertension.
  • Evaluate the hepatic veins and inferior vena cava.
