No, schools cannot provide certification, if a CME school tells you they will "certify you", look elsewhere as that is a private certification. Schools provide the education needed to pass a nationally recognized board exam such as those offered by the ARDMS, APCA, and CCI. Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute provides continuing medical education (CME) and ultrasound skills training for current medical professionals or allied health degrees. GCUS does not offer long-term degree programs to become a sonographer for the first time. If you are just getting into ultrasound, we highly suggest looking at CAAHEP.org to find accredited sonography programs and they will coordinate your needed clinical hours. Gulfcoast Ultrasound Institute Materials are used by over 100 long-term ultrasound programs as curriculum materials.

No prior ultrasound experience is required. However, participants should be formally trained or currently practicing within a recognized healthcare profession, such as physicians, sonographers, PA's, NP's, chiropractic, physical therapy, nursing, EMS, or other recognized allied health certificate.

Yes, GCUS is a preferred education provider for the POCUS Certification Academy (PCA). While formal competency sign-off depends on the certifying body, we assist with the peer review component of certification. Our courses are also used by numerous AEMUS Civilian and DoD facilities preparing Providers for the intensive Focused Practice Designation (FPD) Certification.

While our courses primarily focus on clinical and educational aspects, each course does cover related specialty-specific ultrasound billing and reimbursement within their own practices during discussions.

We strongly emphasize hands-on learning. Live courses feature supervised scanning on live models, phantoms, and cadavers in small groups (no larger than 3:1 participants to instructors) to maximize individual scan time and instructor interaction.
