Overview

Use of Ultrasound in Combat and Austere Environments CME Vital provides a brief overview of the use of ultrasound in combat and austere environments. Tactical ultrasound is performed differently as compared to the standard hospital-based emergency department due to limited resources. The use of ultrasound allows for rapid assessment of an injured or critically ill-military member to improve time to treatment and/or determine if war zone evacuation is necessary. A variety of ultrasound applications may be performed and the findings can significantly impact decisions that affect patient outcomes, preservation of fighting forces, utilization of fixed resources, and minimizing over-all risks
