Overview

Ultrasound Evaluation of Non-Atherosclerotic Carotid Abnormalities training video will focus on a case-based approach using duplex ultrasound to evaluate the non-atherosclerotic carotid abnormalities. The cases will emphasize differentiating and documenting ultrasound findings associated with various abnormalities associated with intraluminal obstruction, structural wall integrity defects, extraluminal pathology and compression syndromes.

Objectives

  • Identity ultrasound characteristics of thromboembolism, dissection, fibromuscular dysplasia, vasculitis, and radiation fibrosis.
  • State the diagnostic criteria associated with aneurysm, penetrating ulcers, and arterio-venous fistulas.
  • Recognize ultrasound findings associated with carotid body tumor, jugular vein thrombosis, and extrinsic compression syndromes .
  • Identify incidental neck masses commonly seen when performing a carotid duplex/color flow imaging examination.
  • Improve knowledge and competence to perform and/or interpret carotid duplex/color flow imaging examinations.

Audience

Physicians, sonographers and other medical professionals involved with performing and/or interpreting vascular ultrasound examinations. Physician participants may include (but is not limited to): vascular surgery, radiology, cardiology, internal medicine, neurology, primary care, and general surgery.
