Overview

The Mesenteric and Porto-Hepatic Duplex Sonography Training Video focuses on the duplex/color ultrasound evaluation of the principal mesenteric vessels. One focus is on the associated symptom complex and the role of the celiac and superior mesenteric arteries in chronic mesenteric ischemia. A second focus is on the porto-hepatic venous system and the hemodynamic responses to portal hypertension.

Objectives

  • Evaluate the mesenteric arterial circulation for clinically significant chronic ischemia.
  • Perform a standard protocol to document hemodynamic changes associated with portal hypertension.
  • Evaluate the hepatic veins and inferior vena cava.

Audience

Physicians, PA’s, sonographers and other medical professionals who will be involved with performing and/or interpreting abdominal vascular duplex/color flow imaging examinations. Physicians may include (but is not limited to) radiology, general surgery, vascular surgery, cardiology, internal medicine, and primary care.
