Objectives

  • Recognize proper ultrasound scan planes and landmarks useful in the first trimester
  • Identify different segments of midline brain structures
  • Identify all components required for proper evaluation of the fetus in the 1st trimester
  • List which current screening tests provide the most information (NIPT)
  • Recall indications and equipment used for a fetal echocardiogram
  • Describe the basic views included in a fetal echocardiogram
  • List ways to optimize specific 2D, color and pulsed wave images included in the fetal echocardiogram
  • Identify fetal head anatomy in the 2nd and 3rd trimester
  • Recognize different segments of forebrain, midbrain, and hindbrain
  • Identify main fissures and sulci seen with ultrasound
  • Understand the normal flow of CSF through fetal brain
