Dr. Thiele completed medical school in Frankfurt, Germany in 1991 and fellowship training in rheumatology at Dartmouth in 2003. He was certified in MSK ultrasound in 1995 in Germany, and in rheumatologic US in 2013 with the American College of Rheumatology.
He joined the faculty of the University of Rochester in Rochester, NY, Allergy/Immunology and Rheumatology Division in 2006 where he currently serves as a Professor of Medicine. His research interests include sonographic diagnosis and outcomes assessment of crystal arthritis, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis.
He has previously served as chair of the MSK section of the AIUM, chair of the ultrasound task force of the ACR, and has developed and chaired educational ultrasound courses at the University of Rochester, Cooper University Hospital, the AIUM and the ACR. He has also developed imaging algorithms, appropriateness criteria and certification with the American Colleges of Radiology, Rheumatology and EULAR.
